Firefox ignored by Acrobat?? (Firefox 1.0.7, Acrobat 5)

I downloade the Ghost 10.0 manual from Symantec's web site.

When I clicked on a link in the PDF document, IE was used to go to the link, but Firefox is the default browser.

How can I control which browser is used in Acrobat?

This is with Acrobat 5.

Try changing the URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol to your choice in Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types.....

Is your Acrobat 5 the full program, or is it just the Reader? I'm not sure there is a way to override the default Windows browser from within Acrobat.

Leif's suggestion will work, though. Check out the Adobe Acrobat Reader Forum

Howard

I am confused...sorry.

I have downloaded Ghost_10_User_Guide.pdf from Symantec.. I am assuming this is the document you are talking about? All the links are internal navigation and navigate well. As this is a massive document, can you tell me which links you have trouble with. I am using FF and have AR5.

The only URL entry I see is

URL Internet Shortcut

Which uses the command line

rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l

In addition, none of the links in the PDF document use file extensions.

Full Acrobat product
Firefox is the default, not IE.

There's about half-dozen real links.

Easiesr to find is the one I was looking at.

I believe it's on page 23.

You can get there by clicking on "Installing Norton Ghost" in the index, then on "System Requirements".
You'll see a link to supported devices.
That, and all other actual links I've tried, invoke IE, instead of thedefault Firefox browser,

Ok this popped into my head

1) Choose Edit > Preferences and click Internet.

2) Select Display PDF In Browser to open PDF documents on the web within the browser. Deselect this option if you want web-based PDF documents to open in Adobe Reader, not the browser.

Gets rid of the problem but doesn't solve it...best I can do.

Scroll up.. it's a "no file extension" listing that you're looking for. Not that it will necessarily override Adobe Reader's behavior...

On my system, N/A is used rather than ]NONE}, but it is already set to Firefox.

So, I guess that Acrobat is explicitly using IE.

If it is something in Acrobat 5 then it has been fixed by Acrobat 7. I tried the external link on page 23 of the pdf and it opened the page in Firefox. It may have been the Adobe Acrobat 7.0.5 Professional Update as the update included features such as support for Firefox 1.0 and Mozilla 1.7 browsers.

I expect that even back in Acrobat 5, Adobe could have chosen to use the default browser, rather than explicitly invoking IE.

What they "could have" done may not have any bearing on common sense and reality... perhaps they hardwired it to IE anyway. I have not experienced this problem with Acrobat 6 or 7, either the full version or just the reader.

Thanks Leif,
For months I've had IE open (rather than FF) when I clicked on links in an outlook document, your suggestion solved this problem. Have a virtual on me!
