Cannot open word file (2000)

I appear to be having difficulty opening a Word file. The house glass is showing but the file is just not opening.
It was fine yesterday. I am baffled as to why this is. Any assistance as to how l can open the file would be appreciated as it contains a lot of work and l don't really want to do it all again.
The file is just to large to be zipped up and/or attached.

    Hi jj

Have a look at this URL. See if any of Microsofts advice will help:Links to assist with Problems in opening Word docs!

Another thing you can try: See if you can open the document in Windows Explorer, then you can Save it as a new document!

Disabling macros before opening the file may be useful in your particular case. This is most easily done by holding the shift key down as you open the file. If that doesn't work then you can recover unformatted content by changing the File Type in the Open dialog to "Recover Text from Any File"

Also OpenOffice (the open source software) is reputed to be able to open damaged Word docs to allow you to recover the content and formatting.

    > Changing the File Type in the Open dialog to "Recover Text from Any File"

Start Microsoft Word.

Select File | Open... (or click the Open button on the Standard toolbar, or press Ctrl+O)

Click the "Files of type" dropdown list near the bottom of the dialog.

Scroll down until you see "Recover Text from Any File (*.*)

Select this option.

Select the problem document in the list of documents.

Click Open.[/list]Warning: Word will not open the document the normal way, it will try to find all readable text, both in the body of the document and in the metadata (extra information) that is stored in a document.
You should reset "Files of type" to "Word documents (*.doc)" next time you use the Open dialog.
