Deleting User Accounts (XP (Home edition))

I've tried to delete a user account. When I get to the final 'click' to delete I get an error message stating the action cannot be completed 'Error 80070402' Anyone any idea what this is, please?

Also, when I bring up the Help Index I get the cursor in the Search Box but can't type anything in it?!!

Thanks.

Problem 1:
Start > Run... and enter

control userpasswords2

and see if you can delete it from there.

Problem 2:
Can't help, I'm afraid.

Concerning your second question, there are at least two Help Center tweaks at: Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP. However, I don't have any idea if one of the two might fix whatever is wrong with your Help. Take a look at line number 235 and 344. I also don't know how much experience you have with reading regedit files, but you SHOULD take a look inside those tweaks to see what they repair.

Have you run any spyware detection lately to make sure you haven't picked up a nasty?

What accounts are you trying to remove?
Remember that the system supplied accounts should NOT be removed.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

DELPROF.EXE has been in almost every Resource Kit that Microsoft has brought out. Here's where you can download it from, and here's a writeup for the Windows 2000 version. The MSI Installer will probably give you fairly similar documentation.

Thanks for all the help, folks. Leif's suggestion worked great.

And, funnily enough, the Help facility seems to have fixed itself. Maybe there was some link between the error and the helpdesk.

Anyway, thanks again. I've posted another problem elsewhere and you guys came up with a solution for me on both of them!

I'm just sorry that it's unlikely to be able to offer any help to anyone else with my [very] limited knowledge of computers! :-(
