AutoCorrect not working with lowercase (Excel XP)

What needs to be done so Excel (and Word) recognize that "pt" is the same as "PT" when typed? Excel does not expand the lowercase version, just the uppercase. I don't find where I could mark this as not case-sensitive.

I did just edit my AutoCorrect entries so they are lowercase to begin with, but I still can't figure out why uppercase is so picky.

Could you explain what you are trying to do?

Change "pt" to "PT" or "PT" to "pt"

Depending on your desire, other issues might be the option to auto uppercase the first letter of a sentence or even not uppercasing 2 initial letters.

Steve, I want "PT'" or "pt" to expand to "Peggy Tabar". When I have "PT" in the AutoCorrect, I have to type "PT" - "pt" will not work. As mentioned, I changed the AutoCorrect to lowercase and it works now. Just wondering why I can't have the AutoCorrect shorthand case insensitive.

I think this is "by design". If you enter a lower-case abbreviation, it is assumed to be generic, for example if you enter "pt", then Excel will replace "pt", "Pt", "pT" and "PT" with the specified text. However, if the abbreviation contains upper-case letters, it is assumed that you only want to replace that specific word. This can be useful: you might want "US" to be replaced by "United States", but not every occurrence of "us".

Ah! Thanks, Hans. I hadn't thought of that. Now I know the reasoning. My mind is at ease
