    Video without Sound

A friend said transferring a video file from a laptop to another PC resulting in only the video coming across, not any of the sound. I've never heard of this. I always thought the audio was part of the same file as the video. I've suggested being sure that sound could be heard on the target PC and other suggestions like this. I haven't been able to look at the actual PC.
Has anyone heard of anything like this? (I'm sorry if this is the wrong Lounge area, but I didn't see any Multimedia boards.)

Sounds like the file became corrupt during the transfer. Tell your friend to try transferring the file again or to use a different method.

    Re: Video without Sound

Your assumption that the audio goes with it is correct - it's part of the stream - but some video formats require different codecs installed to play back properly. It's most likely that the target computer does not have the proper codec for the audio contained within the file. There are ways to find out what codec is needed, if that's the problem. What is the format of the file?
