    Free imaging software

    Edited for language by HansV

This looks promising. Hopefully allow me to get rid of my last piece of Symantec - Ghost 9.0.

    DriveImage XML
Image and Backup logical Drives and Partitions

DriveImage XML is an easy to use and reliable program for imaging and backing up partitions and logical drives.

    The program allows you to:

    * Backup logical drives and partitions to image files
    * Browse these images, view and extract files
    * Restore these images to the same or a different drive
    * Copy directly from drive to drive

Image creation uses Microsoft's Volume Shadow Services (VSS), allowing you to create safe "hot images" even from drives currently in use.

Images are stored in XML files, allowing you to process them with 3rd party tools. Never again be stuck with a useless backup!

Restore images to drives without having to reboot.

DriveImage XML runs under Windows XP Home and XP Professional only.
The program will backup, image and restore drives formatted with FAT 12, 16, 32 and NTFS.

    Re: Free imaging software

It's been nearly a month since Bill's post. Anyone had an experience with DriveImage XML?

I'm working on a backup policy for a small corporation. I've read many old threads in the Lounge, especially those involving Acronis True Image and followed the links which showed the difference between "backup" and "image".
Since our needs are very simple, I think we'll get by with Karen's Replicator, but still I want to know of good imaging tools.

    Thank you in advance

    Diego,
No experience with DriveImageXML but Acronis True Image is still tops in my book.
Easy to use and not expensive.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Yes, I read very good comments about Acronis True Image.
    Thanks for the advice Bob!
