That's all fine and good... but if they are gonna let goof balls like me get into it enough to cause problems, then they ought to let us in far enough to fix 'em.
And I don't set restore points...

Then, I went nto the Recovery Console, thinking that either checkdisk or some type of registry patch-up wold work... but checkdisk wouldn't run, said Ihad missing and damaged files, and to call my Administrator....

I keep image backups every couple days...
Then why don't you simply restore your latest image?
You also say that you don't have restore points. Perhaps this adventure is a compelling reason to start keeping restore points?

John:
I did in fact go back to Friday's backup. I was however trying to recoup my email of those last days...
Would Restore points give my back *all* files, or just system/registry files?
It must've been my file table that got screwed up, cause many folders and their contents were screwed up...
Nightly images?

System Restore restores crucial operating system files to a previous (and hopefully functioning) state. It does not affect any personal data files. A daily image is certainly the best choice, especially if you do a lot of experimenting and tweaking.

Guys:
Here I am, trying to be a good boy....
I turned back on my System Restore. Then I went to backup my System State. 550 Mega later, I got the following errors:

What does all this mean?
Do I re-install, are there missing files, or is it, in the words of my garnddaughter: "No Big Deal!"?

Guys:
Also, since I'm now trying (per advice) to set resore points, I have two questiosn:
1) Is there a way to automate the process? and
2) If you do end up "in difficulties", is there access to Restore Points if you cannot boot Windows?
Regards,
Chuck Billow
