    Old Versions of Software

If you are like me and find that some new versions of software are a backward step, this site might be of interest.

    Mark,
I get the drift of your post OK but what is "I'm really jonesing "?
    Never heard of that one. A mid-western local saying? <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> <img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15>

    Jezza and Mark,

OK, it's about what I thought it was but I wonder what it's origin was?

<img src=/S/jollyroger.gif border=0 alt=jollyroger width=29 height=18> "Keeping up with the Joneses" is a phrase that describes the desire to aquire material wealth at a rate comparable to one's peer or neighbours. I believe it has its roots in there somewhere. Not being an etymologist, I wouldn't go to the bank on it. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Maybe it's related to a Basketball Jones?

This origin makes some sense, though I can't imagine drug addicts actually researching this to coin the term themselves...

(after John Jones, the British physician who first described opiate withdrawal in 1700) withdrawal from addiction; by extension, craving any drug

    Re: Old Versions of Software

I think I might still have a copy of Word for DOS v5.0 and possibly even v3.0 somewhere. I'm not sure if I ever got as far as v5.5 so it's a tempting download. I'm also tempted by the early versions of Terragen on the site SteveH linked to, my collection only goes back to v0.8.11.

    Re: Old Versions of Software

Some time ago a link was posted in the Lounge to a location where you could download all of the older (pre Win95) versions of Windows along with other "expired" operating systems.

I wonder if I could even find compatible hardware for such a thing!
