Formula problem (Office XP)

I need a formula that will multiply 2 cells, but the result can not go above a certain number. For example, A1 times A2 but not more than $1000.

    Can anyone help me here?

    Thanks

    Try this:

=MIN(A1*A2,1000)

OK that seems to have done it! Thanks

Just so I am understanding it, does that formula mean the cell will show the smaller of the two values, either A1*A2 or 1000?

Yes, the MIN function returns the smallest value among its arguments. so if A1*A2 is less than (or equal to) 1000, it will return A1*A2, and if A1*A2 is greater than (or equal to) 1000, it will return 1000.
