Read in plain text (Office XP)

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

I decided to tell Outlook XP to read mail in plain text as outlined in this
Microsoft article. Turns out you have to add a registry key in the Mail
    folder to do it.

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;307594

But on my computer, Regedit does not show the Mail folder under Outlook
Options. It only has Calender, General, and MSHTML.

Any ideas why my registry structure is different than MS says it should be,
or how I might implement this change?

    Thanks

Select Options (under HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice10.0Outloo k) in the left hand pane.
Select Edit | New | Key.
Rename the new key to Mail.
With Mail selected, select Edit | New | DWord Value.
Rename the new value to ReadAsPlain.
Double click it and enter the value 1.
    Click OK.

OK thanks, I will try that.

Do you have any idea why that key might be missing?

We have upgraded to Outlook 2003, so I'm not sure what would have been under that key in Outlook 2002. However, mine shows my editor preference, that I never want to send read receipts, and a couple of other preferences. Perhaps these were stored somewhere else in earlier versions?

They're under the Mail key for me too - I'm using Outlook 2002 (XP).

Re: Read in plain text (Office XP)

After reading what jscher and Hans said about option choices being stored there, had the idea that maybe the Mail key is created only if you change an option. So I went in to Outlook and changed my editor choice, and sure enough the Mail key has appeared in the registry!

Thanks to all for the help.
