    registry keys for... (OfficeXP SP3)

    Hello

I need the registry settings for the following office setting - goto the menus Tools>Customize>Options > tick "Show Standard and Formatting toolbars on two row".

I need the registry key for the apps: Word, Excel and Powerpoint

    Any ideas?
    many thanks

There's a key HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0Common Toolbars with two REG_DWORD values, AdaptiveMenus and CustomizeDlgTab, and a subkey Settings. In this subkey there are REG_BINARY values for Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Visual Basic. Because these are binary values, I cannot find out what they represent, but it could be including the settings you're after.

There are no human-readable registry values for this. If it is stored in the registry at all, it is in binary values.

You can download and unzip (not install required) Sysinternals Freeware - Regmon to see what keys are modified when you change the settings.

I do not believe that there is a separate registry key, as others have said the option is likely encoded inm a binary value.

However, using a registry key would not be the best approach anyway.

One could set up a VBA macro to toggle the setting.

    Howard

With your suggestion I would need to setup code within Word Excel & Powerpoint. I was wanting to avoid this and use the registry items.

It's usually best to avoid changing registry keys as MSFT might change those from version to version.

Much less of a chance that MSFT would change such features in the VBA object model.

I think this one was omitted from the object model. Long, long time ago I looked into it for standardizing new installs and I think we either had people do it manually or did it with SendKeys.

There are many settings that are not settable via the object model.

Re: registry keys for... (OfficeXP SP3)

This is per-user per-application setting, and its default is not adjustable. This setting is not adjustable by simple registry editing: for example, for Word 2003 it is
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0WordDa taToolbars
binary value - not for human reading. Of course, you can copy this value from the sample installation and replace it on the client computer (along with settings for Excel, Powerpoint, etc) but it is impractical.

It's a pity it could not be changed from the object model.

it can be changed in vba.
use sendkeys, or better yet, the windows api to set the value.

Are you going to supply us with actual code to support your assertions?

SendKeys, as you should well know, can be definitely unreliable when widely deployed.

Your statements are beginning to sound like wishful thinking.

I have done the deed in the past, but have no time to dig up the code, as that would distract me from paying client's work.
