    usrprmpt.exe in Norton AV 2006

I just installed NAV2006 on three computers yesterday. Now, when any user logs in on any account, ZoneAlarm firewall gives an alert as shown in the attached screenshot. The "SSC" in the message stands for Symantec Security Center, and the file referred to, usrprmpt.exe, resides in C:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec SharedSecurity Center. Until I know what this does, I have been clicking "Deny," since it involves a change to the registry. But I'd like to resolve this. I can't find anything about this on Norton's support site (nothing unusual about that). So, is it ok to click "Allow"?

usrprmpt.exe is is required for Symantec Antivirus to work correctly. See http://www.auditmypc.com/process/usrprmpt.asp for a brief description.

Thanks for that link. But does this mean I will keep getting that ZoneAlarm message every logon and keep having to click "deny"? What the message says is that Norton Security Center is trying to change the registry so that usrprmpt does NOT run at startup. If usrprmpt is necessary for NAV to run, why would NAV try to keep it from running? I don't understand this.

I have NIS 2006 and usrprmpt.exe is not run at startup.

The best answer I have found is from this Google groups search when the poster enquired with Symantec and they said it was not required to run at startup.

Allow it and remember the setting.
I think you may be getting a little paranoid. You just installed a new app ( NAV 2006 ) so there would logically be a change involved.
ZA is just trying to protect your startup settings from changes.

OK, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

(I don't really think I'm paranoid, but if I am, I have earned it, since I handle maintenance of all the computers in this place and have recovered from my share of meltdowns. Computer meltdowns, that is, not personal meltdowns. I'm always cool as a cucumber.)

Good. Let us know how you do.
Computer meltdowns are still better than personal meltdowns. We can probably help with the former but not the latter! <img src=/S/meltdown.gif border=0 alt=meltdown width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/cool.gif border=0 alt=cool width=15 height=15>
