    String Search & Highlight (Excel 2K3 SP-2)

    Hello All & Happy Holidays!

    I've got some executives too lazy to run a "find" to inspect some records. So I guess I'll need a spreadsheet to do it for them.

    I have the String to match in Column A
    I have the data to inspect in the following 56 Columns

    Here's what I was thinking:
    Use Conditional Formatting for each cell. If the cell contains the string in Column A, then highlight the cell
    Conceptually that seems simple enough (even the exec agreed on that one... heh) But where I'm getting stuck is:
    What formula do I use to inspect the cell for the string in column A?

    You'll have to excuse me, I'm on cold medication!!

    Thanks for your help!

    Something like this:

    <code>
    =SEARCH($A$1,B1)>0
    </code>

    The following will highlight any cell that has the text in the A column anywhere in that cell. If A2 contains "car" and B2 contains "scare", B2 will be highlighted.

    =IF(ISERROR(SEARCH($A2,B2)),FALSE,TRUE)

    If you are looking for an exact mathc A2 = "cat" and B2 = "cat" use
    =IF($A2 = B2),FALSE,TRUE)
