    DOT step numbering (Word 2003 SP2)

    I'm having trouble with a DOT we'll be using for instructional guides. I created a numbered Step style following some guidelines expoused by Shauna Kelly, but to no avail. Note that we do not wish to use Outline Numbering.

    <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold">==></span hi> The sequence initially looks like this: <span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #000000; font-weight: bold"><==</span hi>

    <font face="Comic Sans MS">...some body text ut aliquid ex ea commodi consequatur? Quis autem vel eum iure reprehenderit qui in ea voluptate velit esse quam nihil molestiae consequatur, vel illum qui dolorem eum fugiat quo voluptas nulla pariatur.

    Does the macro in <post:=538,727>post 538,727</post:> help?

    If not, could you post the code of your macro? It's rather hard to tell why it doesn't do what you want if we don't know what it does.

    Since you posted your code, I assume that you tried the macro I posted a link to, and that it didn't do what you want. What went wrong?

    You could try changing your macro to

    Sub Renumber()
    '
    ' Renumber Macro
    ' Macro recorded 12/1/2005 by cmorton
    '
    Selection.Range.ListFormat.ApplyListTemplate ListTemplate:=ListGalleries( _
    wdNumberGallery).ListTemplates(2), ContinuePreviousList:=False, ApplyTo:= _
    wdListApplyToSelection, DefaultListBehavior:=wdWord10ListBehavior
    End Sub

    Re: DOT step numbering (Word 2003 SP2)

    Lemme guess... get rid of this:

    .LinkedStyle = "#MRTU Step (1st Series)"

    Nope... that wasn't it.

    Get rid of:

    wdListApplyToWholeList,

    ???

    wdListApplyToSelection was the answer... thanks!

    Re: DOT step numbering (Word 2003 SP2)

    I spoke too soon. Now the renumbering macro somehow calls up a ghost style that I don't want. Please see below, and the attachment.

    ' Macro recorded 12/1/2005 by cmorton
    '

    With ListGalleries(wdNumberGallery).ListTemplates(2).Li stLevels(1)
    .NumberFormat = "%1."
    .TrailingCharacter = wdTrailingTab
    .NumberStyle = wdListNumberStyleArabic
    .NumberPosition = InchesToPoints(1)
    .Alignment = wdListLevelAlignLeft
    .TextPosition = InchesToPoints(1.25)
    .TabPosition = InchesToPoints(1.25)
    .ResetOnHigher = 0
    .StartAt = 1
    With .Font
    .Bold = wdUndefined
    .Italic = wdUndefined
    .StrikeThrough = wdUndefined
    .Subscript = wdUndefined
    .Superscript = wdUndefined
    .Shadow = wdUndefined
    .Outline = wdUndefined
    .Emboss = wdUndefined
    .Engrave = wdUndefined
    .AllCaps = wdUndefined
    .Hidden = wdUndefined
    .Underline = wdUndefined
    .Color = wdUndefined
    .Size = wdUndefined
    .Animation = wdUndefined
    .DoubleStrikeThrough = wdUndefined
    .Name = ""
    End With
    End With
    ListGalleries(wdNumberGallery).ListTemplates(2).Na me = ""
    Selection.Range.ListFormat.ApplyListTemplate ListTemplate:=ListGalleries( _
    wdNumberGallery).ListTemplates(2), ContinuePreviousList:=False, ApplyTo:= _

    Re: DOT step numbering (Word 2003 SP2)

    Word is wont to create phantom styles if you have "Keep track of formatting" turned on in the Edit tab of Tools | Options...
    You could turn this off, or perhaps the macro I referred to in my first reply will work better.
