    Outlook 2003 Export (2003 SP 2)

I'm sure this has been covered in this forum before but I must not be using the correct search criteria to find it. My question: Can I export Outlook 2003's Contact folder to some format that will allow me to then import it into Outlook 2000? If so, what format do I use when exporting the Contacts folder and would the same hold true for the Calendar folder?

    Thanks.

Try exporting to a Excel spread sheet.
As for the calendar you may try Excel also.

DaveA's suggestion will work fine, but FYI, another alternative that will take longer to export, but less time to import, is to create a new PST in 2003 using the old 97-2002 (Pre-unicode) PST format, create a Contacts folder within that new PST, then copy your Contacts into that PST, and then open it in Outlook 2000 and import the contact from it into Outlook 2000.

    John,

Thanks but I'm not certain what you mean. I'll have to try to figure it out.

    Dave,

I forgot to ask. When I import it into Outlook 2000 will it give me the option to not overwrite existing contact?

    If I remember right, yes???

I make a Excel file about once a month as a backup and or to transfer to a different machine. It is worth while in keeping a backup of the contacts.

In Outlook 2003, File | Data File Management | Add | highlight the 'Outlook 97-2000 Personal Folders File' PST and create it. Then create a Contacts Folder in it and copy your contacts into it, etc, as I explained above.

    John,

Thanks. Can I ask one more question? That wasn't it. Do I have to copy each contact separately or can they all be copied at once?

First have your target Contacts Folder created. Then select all source Contacts by clicking the first, shift-clicking the last. Select Edit, Copy to Folder, and click on the target Contacts folder.

    John,

Thanks I didn't know it would that way. I guess I should have considered that.
