    Track Changes (2003)

    Hello,
I notice that some Word docs have Track Changes on and others have Track Changes off. If I turn Track Changes off, the next time I open that doc, Track Changes is on again. Yet, in some docs I have managed to turn it off and it stays off. Can someone please enlighten me on how to turn TRK off so it stays off until I want to turn it on? Thanks.

    Re: Track Changes (2003)

Normally Track Changes stays in the state it was in when the document was last saved - but if there are tracked changes in the document Word 2003 displays the Final Showing Markup view to show them on the screen even if you are not currently tracking them. I have just opened a document with tracked changes in. TRK was not showing in the status bar but the existing unaccepted tracked changes were visible on screen in red. If that is not the behaviour you are seeing is it possible that there is a macro or add-in that is turning on tracking when the document is opened?

In each instance, all changes have been accepted and Track Changes is turned off. The doc is then saved. The behavior you described is exactly what I am used to and that has been fine. No macros or add-ins have been incorporated. Yet some docs will save with TRK off, so when it is opened next, it stays off. Others, TRK is on every time!

I suspect this may have something to do with the document having been emailed through outlook and some metadata has been added to allow word to ask the original author if they want to merge with their existing doc.

Does <post:=299,165>post 299,165</post:> provide any assistance in tracking this problem down?
