    Restrict Program Access (XP Pro)

Is there a way to set up a user account that will only allow access to programs I designate?

I want Office programs to be able to run (for homework purposes), but not the games or Internet Explorer.

How computer savvy are those that you want to restrict access to?

Good - that should make life easier!

This may not be the best way, but is quite simple.

Log in as Adminstrator and (if you haven't already) create an account for the restricted user(s).

Open Windows explorer and navigate to Cocuments and Settings

Expand the folders for AdminstratorStart MenuPrograms and All UsersStart MenuPrograms

From the All UsersStart MenuPrograms folder, left-click and drag the Games folder to the same place in the Administrators profile.

(I'm not sure if Internet Explorer shortcuts appears on any Start Menu / Programs as I have removed them all from my machine, but if they do on yours, do the same with them)

Log off then Log Into the restricted user account.

Right-click on the desktop and click Properties.

Select the Desktop tab, then click on Customize Desktop

De-select Internet Explorer, then OK out.

If the QuickLaunch menu is showing, right-click any shortcut to IE and select Delete. OK out.

    Right-click the TaskBar, select Properties.

    StartMenu Tab, then Customize

    De-select Show Run.

    OK out.

And that should be about it.
