    flashing light on power supply

I am helping a friend who has a Compaq Presario S7300CL system. His CDRW drive was not working properly so I took it out and put in a replacement. However, now when I try to start the computer, I get a flashing light by the on/off button and there is a light on the rear of the power supply that is flashing. This is even before I try to turn the system on. When I do try to turn the system on - nothing happens. When I pull the electrical cord out of the power supply, the flashing lights stay on for about 30 seconds.

    What is going on?

Re: flashing light on power supply

Is this the original power supply? I know my IBM Thinkpad will blink if it isn't receiving enough power...indicating that while it's receiving a charge, it's not receiving enough of one....

Yes this is the original power supply. This is a desktop computer. I just finished an online chat with a Compaq technician (who was very helpful and knowledgeable) and it appears that the power supply needs to be replaced. So I am gonna try to find one tomorrow.

There's a strong possibility that nothing was wrong with the drive that you yanked, if the power supply was failing.

A new power supply solved the problem but the CD drive was still bad and had to be replaced.
