    Functions (Office2000/Excel)

    I have a column of numbers in column B for which I have entered a function to show the running totals in column C.
    When that total reaches a certain sum, I want the excess to display in column D. How do I designate in the function the cell in which I want it to display

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

    Does the attached workbook do what you want? The formulas use MIN to cut the running sum in column C off at the limit (in E2), and MAX to calculate the spillover in column D. The cells in column D have been formatted to hide zero values.

    If it is not what you want, please provide more information.

    Hans; Thank you very much for your reply. Your formula works fine, but it does not go as far as I wanted.
    I want to put something in the formula in the C column which will "automatically" put the spillover
    I used the formula IF((c7+b8)<18,c7+b8,18
    This formula also works, as does yours, but I want to continue the formula to say to put the spillover into d8
    I thought perhaps an AND function might do it, but I do not know how to go about stating it.
    Thanks

    I'm sorry, I don't understand. A formula in column C cannot put anything in column D. A formula in a cell only returns a value in that cell.

    Hans;
    Thank you for your reply. I guess that is why I could not figure it out, because it cannot be done.
    Thanks again
    Herb
