Mystery button in Windows Media Player 10

I've attached a screen shot. This odd button appears in the title bar of Media Player and seems to have no function or explanation that I can find.

Only in WMP?
My screen-grabber, Hardcopy, places another icon in a similar place on open windows, so I would suspect some add-in. Do you have any music folder synch software or similar?

Just in WMP. And there are no other add-ins (that I am aware of), it's appeared after not one but two formats and reinstalls of XP. I too suspected an add-in for quite some time, but the odd thing about this is that when you try to click on the button, it tends to vanish. This is more to sate my curiosity, since it seems to serve no other purpose than to generate curiosity.

Do you have two title bars in WMP, or are those screenshots from two different skins?
The triablge button below the one you point at opens the application menu.

What you are seeing is WMP when it is maximized, so that there is a "true" title bar in addition to the skinned controls that are always present.

OK.
When I open up WMP with the Menu Bar, I also get it (pic top left), but clicking it makes the Menu Bar disappear (pic top right).
To get it back, I need to right click the top of WMP, then View > Menu Bar Options > Show Menu Bar (pic bottom).

Make any more sense?

(Edited by Leif on 13-Dec-05 09:03. )
Just noticed - you have different buttons top right to me.

I have Min-Max-Exit, whereas you have Min-Restore Down-Exit.

Does that give you a clue?

OK - I think I've just worked it out.
You are running full window, I'm running in a smaller window.

It seems that you can't get rid of the Menu Bar when running in full screen mode, therefore the odd button only does something when you are not in full screen (maximised window) mode.

It seems you have hit the answer, Leif. The strange icon seems to be for CLOSING the menu bar. In my screenshot, I've taken the liberty of dragging the left end of the shot to the right so you can see that, in the top part the menu bar is visible. When you click the thingie, it closes the menu bar, BUT the icon it leaves behind DOES bring a popup tooltip to show that it brings back the menus.

Doesn't that just figure! I never found a use for the button due to the way that I use the player itself - either maximized or as a toolbar. If nothing else it's one less mystery for me to spend time thinking on.
