Closing down XP (Service Pack 2)

When closing down I randomly get stuck on the screen msg which says 'Windows is shutting down' and I have to turn off manually. If I get to the message 'It is now safe to turn off your computer I have to do it manually but Windows 98 used to shut off my PC automatically. Any suggestions/comments, please?

    Thanks

For starters, check out this link to troubleshooting startup & shutdown problems.

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!
