    Macro shortcuts (Word 2000)

Our team uses a standard set of comments that we frequently insert in documents, and we have created a set of simple macros to insert them. Is it possible to save a standard set of keyboard shortcuts along with the macros, or will each user need to set these up on their own system? (Users have a range of PC and Mac Word versions.)

Where do you store the macros? If you have created a template or add-in (global template) for the macros, you can store keyboard shortcuts for the macros in the same template/add-in.

I'm not sure ... on the system where the macros were created, they seem to be in the Normal.dot template. According to the Visual Basic editor, they are in Normal > Modules > NewMacros. We want to be able to distribute the macros so that users can easily install them in various versions of Word, preferably along with keyboard shortcuts (although presumably there is the potential for these to conflict with shortcuts already set up on other systems?)

Create a new template and use the organizer to copy the macros into it (Tools | Templates and Add-Ins..., Organizer button).
Store the keyboard shortcuts in the same template.
The template should be stored in the Startup path for Word. You can either let the users keep a local copy, or store the template in a shared network folder, and point the users' Startup path to the shared folder.

    Re: Macro shortcuts (Word 2000)

We have created a template containing a set of macros with keyboard shortcuts. We have distributed this template to users, and they can attach this to a document and use it OK. Is there a way for users to have the macros and shortcuts always available without having to attach them to every document separately; e.g., is there a way for the macros and shortcuts to be copied into a user's global Normal template?

If you copy the template into the user's Word startup folder, the template will load alongside Normal.dot as a global template. That's usually better than changing Normal.dot.
