    Notes Master vs Template (2003)

Notes Masters do not carry over when a PowerPoint template is applied. This only occurs when I apply the template to an existing presentation

Apparently, it's an oversight (or a bug, if you wish). As far as I can tell, you have to approach it from the other side:
    - Create a new presentation from the template you wish to apply.
    - Delete the existing slide(s).
    - Select Inset | Slides from File...
    - Browse to the existing presentation.
    - Make sure that "Keep source formatting" is NOT checked.
    - Click Insert All.
    - Click OK.
The notes pages should take on the formatting of the Notes Master. If not, you may have to select Format | Notes Layout, and check "Reapply Master" before clicking OK.

This technique appears to be a workaround for a similar bug in Handouts.
I created a template with a 1-col 3-row handout master. It refuses to take.
Creating a new presentation based on my 1x3 handout template, then importing Slides from an existing presentation seems to obtain my desired 1x3 handouts layout.
    Thanks.
