    Internet Explorer

One of my PCs has five user accounts, all with admin rights. All five of them "see" the other PCs on the network and share files just as I expect. One of the accounts however, cannot access the Internet. When I launch Internet Explorer, "This page cannot be displayed" appears. If I type a new URL in the Address line, I see the status bar display "opening page" followed by the digital URL, so there must be some connection to translate the web site name. But after a lengthy pause, "This page cannot be displayed" eventually appears.

Work offline is not checked. The other settings appear to match the other users' setting, all of which access the Internet without problem.

Any suggestions as to what I might look for or try?

    Thanks very much,
    Richard Barrett

Try opening a system folder (i.e. C and then typing a web address into it. If it works, then there is a problem with permissions to IE, if it doesn't then the account isn't recognizing an internet connection.

Same situation.. "The page cannot be displayed." But I can get to my FTP site through Windows Explorer, and I can successfully PING my site or any other site.

Can you use other online programs (instant messangers, for example?)

    Re: Internet Explorer

I have uninstalled IM. I did have a copy of the latest FoxFire installation file. I installed that, and it works as expected... I can access any site.

Do all of the settings on the connections tab match your other users?

Yes. This is what I find so puzzling.

Please double check that you do not have a proxy configured.

Tools > Internet Options... > Connections > LAN Settings
Tools > Internet Options... > Connections > Double click each of the dialup connections near the top of the dialog box
