    Protect Folders/Files (XP home SP2)

I know this topic was covered recently, but couldn't find a post that answers my question. I would like to protect some folders and files in My Documents without having to use a logon password. My concern is that if I back up My Documents to a flash drive and that drive gets in the wrong hands, all that data is available to whomever finds the flash drive. In an old post, joeperez had a solution for networked computers that I don't think would apply to me. I expect the answer is a logon password, then individually protect the folders I want. I guess I just want you experts to confirm that, or better yet, tell me how it can be done.

My understanding is that the ability to protect - i.e. lock against unauthorised access - is built in to only some types of flash drive. (See this usbflashdrive.org FAQ). I would check the documentation that might have come with the drive, or the vendor's website.

Alternatively, there are commercial products available, such as Lockngo, which sound like they might do what you want.

Thanks, Leif. I had my eye on buying a Cruzer flash drive which, I see, has the security feature, The Lockngo software appears to do the same thing and is an excellent option
