Can't get Audio from Audio CDs

    Hi,
I have a laptop (Toshiba Satelite 315 CDS) that runs with win95. For the life of me I can't get it to play Audio CDs. When I try, it will open up the CD player program fine, but I can't get a single note of audio. It will play CD ROMs with audio. I don't have any multimedia player programs installed other than what came with win95. Does anyone have ideas on what is wrong with it.

Have you connected the cable from the sound card to the CDROM?

It is a laptop, so would it have a cable that I could access. Also, I am able to get audio from CD ROMs, but not the Audio CDs. Would a problem with the cable allow that to happen?

Typically, yes. But since this is a laptop the internal connections are likely proprietary and it's probably not the cause here, although without seeing it there is no way to be certain. Can you clarify which audio format(s) from CD-ROM work? And have you checked the volume controls for your sound device?

I'm guessing that when you say "CD-ROMs", you're talking about factory made audio CDs and when you say "Audio CDs" you are referring to home burned music CDs. If my speculation is correct and your laptop is an older one that came with Windows 95 already installed from the OEM, then your CD drive probably will not read any form of home burned CD. The drives back then were not able to read a home burned CD. Audio or data.
