    Searching for names/default contact list (2003 SP2)

I've got three annoyances with the new version of Outlook - can anyone help?

    1) In the previous version of Outlook that I used (2000), I could type part a person's first and/or last name in the "To" box and Outlook would figure out the best match and usually find the right person - or give a choice of close matches. This was much faster than clicking the "To:" button, selecting the appropriate contact list and choosing names. In the new version of Outlook, if I type in a first name or initial, it can't search at all. Any way to change this, or do I need to only search on last name

    2) Outlook used to look up the partial name to whom I was sending the email immediately. Now it seems that I have to click the toolbar button to start the process. Am I being impatient or can this be set somewhere?

    3) Is there a way to assign the default contact list. When I click the "to" button, the default contact list is "Recipients", but this is a subset of the "Global Address List" - is there any way to make the global list my default?

Sorry to be whiner - just trying to get back to where I was with Outlook 2000. Raises questions about the benefits of upgrading!

    Thanks

    Whining is allowed except if you are receiving a gift. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    1) Outlook 2003 is happy to give suggestions. I think the problem is that your nickname file is not yet populated with any matches. As Outlook resolves names, they will be added to the file. If you don't find this to be the case, perhaps a checkbox is not ticked somewhere in the options?

    2) There is a delay, but I haven't measured how long it is and don't know whether it is user configurable. You can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+k to avoid having to mouse if you want to see the result immediately.

    3) See "Third" in <post#=334705>post 334705</post#>. Does it work for the GAL?

    Very cool - thanks...

    1) DIdn't know about the nickname table - you're right - makes sense and it works
    2) Impatience and whining gets me no where
    3) Worked like a charm

    Thanks and happy holidays!
