    AutoText entries...

    Hi,

I made some AutoText entries & saved them in a DOT file. When I opened a file based upon the DOT, all of them work Ok.

Then if I SAVE that file as another DOT file, the entries seem to dissapear!

    I have Office2000 SR-1 on Win98.

    Pls. advise; thanks.

    Re: AutoText entries...

    Hi m.q.,

No mystery here - this is according to the way Word is designed:

You saved autotext entries in a .dot file (template).

Then you created a new document based on that template. When you access the autotexts from within that new document, they are available because that document is connected to the template (which is where the autotexts live - the document itself does not contain the autotexts).

Now, you save this document as a new .dot file or template. In doing so, you have severed any connection between this file, and the original template. So none of the autotext entries that are in the original template, are available to the new template.

You can though pretty readily copy the autotexts from template1 into template2, by using the Organizer.

    Hope this helps,
    Gary
