Link in Lounge Help

Eileen

It's a lazy Saturday here so I was just browsing some areas of HELP that I've never looked at before and ran across something that is a bit annoying - on Page 18 there's a link back to your forum message on <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=ann&Number=11543&page=0 &view=expanded&sb=5>Missing Fonts. If you click on that link it opens in the same window as HELP and you can't return to where you were to continue reading the HELP. Maybe sometime when you've got nothing else to do you could change that to open in another window???

Ain't it great what idle hands will dig up....

What browser are you using?
I just tried in IE and NS and in both cases I can go 'Back' to the Help files.
(I appreciate your desire for a new window, just perplexed you can't get back to Help)

Re: Link in Lounge Help

Hi Leif

I'm using IE 5.5 and when I click on Help it opens in new browser window with no toolbar (therefore no IE back button). I use the Help "Index" and "previous" and "next" buttons to navigate around the Help pages and all the other links I've tried within that window provide those buttons for navigation purposes. Only that one link opens a forum thread in the window (still without IE toolbar) so the only way to return to help is to hit the help button again in the lounge menu bar and that takes you to a different Help page than where you started from.

Like I said, it's not a big deal, just a little confusing, especially for a newbie not familiar with the lounge navigation etc which would be one of the reasons someone is looking at Help in the first place, right? .... .... I'm running off at the mouth now....

Just for interest sake - how are you getting 'Back' to Help then? Can you return directly to page 18 where you linked from? Maybe I'm doing something wrong, although I just can't imagine that...

You can actually always go back, from anywhere - there's a back button on the right-click menu.

BUT that glitch you found was an oversight on my part. I've now given a link to the missing fonts directly. Thanks for the catch.

As Eileen says, you always have the right_click Back option.
I actually have the benefit of a 4-button wheel mouse - you can configure the extra two to suit your own desires.
Left thumb = "Back" (except in NS where it does )

Just as a BTW, I habitually open links in a new window (unless I expect it to do it anyway). Hold down the shift key when you click on the link, and Voila!

Thanks for the tips about the 'back' in the right-click menu. I've never used that one in all the time I've been using IE - I'm sure I must have seen it but it never really registered on my consciousness. (maybe because I read somewhere in this lounge that use of the dread "b--k" button could result in )

As for the "open in new window" option - I too make that a habit on most sites, but I have been spoiled here on the lounge by the fact that it usually happens auto -"magic"-ly when I click a link.

In most cases you are right. The ba*ck button should never be needed on a well designed site and the 'open in new window' will screw your cookies if you use it here.
