Black out bottom of page (2000 SP3)

A girl in my office is having a problem I've never encountered. She has Word 2000. She created a file and saved it and all was well. The next day, she opened it and found a huge black box 3/4 of the way down her document blocking the text and vertical scroll bar. When she views in Normal, the black box disappears. When she views in print layout, this black box shows (it does not print). When she clicks on the footer (in print layout), the text shows through the black box in white letters. When I open that same document in my Word 2002, there is no black box. I found a posting at Woody's that sounds just like this problem. It was suggested that the data key be addressed, and we did that - it didn't help. There was also mention in that posting that it could be a video card? If it was the video card, wouldn't it affect Word Perfect, Excel, etc.? All other programs are fine on her computer. I've attached the first page of her document and also a snapshot of the window where the page is blacked out. I should also mention that ALL Word documents opened on her computer contain this black box whether the doc was originated with her or not. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could only attach 1 file at a time - here is the snapshot of screen.

The document appears normal when I look at it with Word 2003. No snapshot attached to your post though. Try again with that?

I had to attach the snapshot separately. See prior post.

She's not using the Word redaction add-in is she? See this link.

Is most of page 2 missing? That's strange.

Well, for better or worse, the document looks fine in Word 2002. You could try saving a copy as RTF (not the Word 6/95 RTF, the regular RTF), closing and re-opening the RTF, then saving back to DOC to see whether there is some corruption that gets purged.

I'd guess that her PC is low on resources, or that her video card isn't up to its task. I don't think the document is corrupted, since it opens correctly on other PCs and since you mention that ALL documents exhibit this problem on her PC.
    She could try the following:
    - Open the Display Properties control panel.
    - Activate the Settings tab.
    - Click Advanced.
    - Activate the Troubleshoot tab.
    - Drag the Hardware acceleration slider a notch to the left.
    - Click OK.
    - See if the problem is gone.
    - If not, drag the slider another notch to the left, etc.
    - If this doesn't help at all, restore the original setting of Hardware acceleration.

    Hi MaryAnn
Have you investigated the drop down box on your colleague's menu bar?

Isn't that just showing something she tried entering in the Help system?

    Hi Ian
You may be right; though I've not been able to have the Help system leave anything on the menu bar. Though I'm certain that a macro could be written to place a command there.

My help box seems to leave in there the last thing I typed in this session.

Thanks for the suggestion Hans but this didn't help. Thanks for your help WDWells but what you are referring to is indeed the last entry I entered in the Help feature.

Yes MaryAnn, I have just been acquainted with another difference between Word 2000 and 2003.
