    Fill Cell (XP 03)

If I recall Lotus was able to fill an entire cell with a character such as an asterisk by using either "/*" or "*". This was done without using any code.

Does Excel offer anything similar without using code?

    Thanks,
    John

You can achieve something similar using custom number formatting. If you apply the custom format ** to a cell, and input any numeric value into that cell it will fill the cell with asterisks (*). To fill the cell with a hash character, you would use *#, as the custom format.

Another way is to enter a single character in the cell, then select Format | Cells, activate the Alignment tab and set the horizontal alignment to Fill.
