Contract Bridge Scoring Program

I am looking for standard bridge scoring program in Excel, basically something which replaces the score card for contract bridge as sometimes provided as an extra card in a bridge deck of cards. Does anybody has some info?

I have had a look around the internet and it appears Excel programs are few and far between. It appears to be an absolute minefield of different options, rules (USA and European). I have found this www.scorer123.com/ but it looks vvveeeerrryyy old as it is stating Excel 95 as the minimum spec.

It may provide you with some clues but so far I have not found anything more modern.

Re: Contract Bridge Scoring Program

Jerry,

Thanks. I had seen this one already. There are in fact tens of scoring programs, mostly related to tournaments, club activities and the like. I am after a simple Excel sheet that calculates the score for me when I play at home with some friends, replacing the manual scoring whereby you either read it from a table or do the calculation manually, e.g. 3 hearts made equals 3*30+50 or 140.
I tried to do it in table format using Lookup functions, but it became too complicated: vulnerable, double, redouble, downtricks etc. So may it is better to program the actual calculations and adding the bonus points for game, slam etc. But I would like to steer away from VBA in first instance.
I have already prepared the second part of the scoring, the conversion into match points based on standard tables and the number of honour tricks. It is all meant for home players who want to minimise the effect of having good or bad hands, so you can swap partners the next game etc.
If you are interested I can put the preliminary sheet on the board.

I was going to suggest that but I know nothing about the scoring system so you would need to talk me/us through very carefully.

If you do not want to do it publicly you can PM me and I will pass you my private email.... it could be a fun little exercise/project

Re: Contract Bridge Scoring Program

The rules for how to play rubber bridge are pretty much the same worldwide, even though the conventions and customs are very different. The scoring is part of the rules and is reasonably described on this web page.

If the bit about "above the line" and "below the line" don't make sense then let me know and I will try to give you a better explanation.
