Unable to access old Documents & Settings data (XP Pro SP2)

I'm trying to transfer data such as favorites, my documents and subfolders, and Outlook data from my old hard drive to my new install of Windows XP.
When I go to the old drive under Documents & Settings, I can see the directories of all 4 users (myself, my wife and our 2 kids). But my directory has no (+) next to it indicating there are subdirectories, and when I try to click on it I get the message

Focuments and Settings1 - Dad is not accessible.
    Access is denied.

Have I gone and lost all the data that used to reside in my 'My Documents' directory? There was a LOT of data there - it would be devastating to lose it. I am hoping that it is just some funky kind of permissions thing, but I don't know what to try, and I don't want to try anything that will lose any of my data (supposing it is still there).

    Thanks!!

    Thanks, John -

I see the answer was all the way down on page 2. Sorry about that - I thought I had searched this topic. I've been having a lot of problems and frustration with this new PC, and as a result a lot of posting over the last week, both here and on a Hardware forum.

    Happy New Year!
