    Format Numbers (Excel 2003)

I need the following numbers to show up in my Excel spreadsheet (Like I enter them. Not dropping off zero's or adding zero). Notice some numbers have 3 places right off decimal, some 4 places right off decimal. I select the column header A. Then I selected Format | Cell |Custom |(In the Type field not sure what to enter)?

    Cell A1 0.0400
    Cell A2 0.050
    Cell A3 1.19
    Cell A4 0.460
    Cell A5 0.771
    Cell A6 0.0141
    Cell a7 0.100

    Do as you have:

Format | Cell |Custom and then type 0.0000

Format | Cell | Number and select 1234.3210 or just select to 4 decimal places.

    Re: Format Numbers (Excel 2003)

The only way without custom formatting them individually is to enter them as text and then convert using VALUE if you ever want to use them in a calculation.

Regardless, Excel will still use 15 significant figures to calculate.

Not taking anything away from your suggestion Steve, but my "simpler" solution doesn't have to be for individual cells, just the simpler solution of highlighting the whole column and providing the format.

Having said that I will let TheDon take the required solution from our suggestions <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Unfortunately, your simpler solution does not do what the original poster requested, If I format a cell as you specified and enter 0.050, I do not get 0.050 as the original poster requested, I get 0.0500.

    Re: Format Numbers (Excel 2003)

Ok , misunderstanding on my part, but it will if:

Format | Cell |Custom and then type 0.000

Format | Cell | Number and select 1234.21 or just select to 3 decimal places.

    A misread from me...sorry
