Can't download Update for OL Junk Email Filter (2003)

I've tried numerous times to download the Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter (KB905648) and it's failed every time. It gets halfway through and then says "failed!" (sic) and finally says "The following updates were not installed: Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter (KB905648)".

I've tried using both IE and Firefox to download it, I've tried turning off my (Symantec) anti-virus program while doing it, I've tried rebooting numerous times, etc. etc. etc. And I've tried just ignoring the prompt to update it as well as telling Windows Update to ignore it, but it keeps prompting me to install it.

I'm using WIndows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2 (academic version obtained via my university) on a Dell Dimension 2100 with an Intel Celeron 1.10 GHz processor with 256 MB of RAM. Can anyone help me figure out how to get around this problem? (the downloading problem, that is, not the "Geez, what an old computer" problem) <img src=/S/sarcasm.gif border=0 alt=sarcasm width=15 height=15>

Have you tried to run the install from "Check for Updates" from the "Help" menu from any Office 2003 product?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Hadn't tried that. After reading your post, I did try it--and it didn't work. I even tried the "full-file" (?) method of installation. Upon failure, however, a wizard popped up with several other possible causes for the problem and suggestions for how to remedy them. Based on those suggestions, the most likely cause is that a registry-cleanup tool messed up something it shouldn't have. I've since tried to follow the instructions for fixing the problem, but they're very confusing. I got as far as creating a new entry called "Path" in the GUID subkey (I think that's what it was?), but it didn't seem to do anything. Any further suggestions?

Have you had this problem with any other installations?

Just a WAG, but the bride's computer has an annoyance in that her digital camera has been mapped to F:, and her external hard drive to G:. When the camera is disconnected, the missing drive causes Adobe updates, and some other programs I attempted to install, to fail to install. I usually just plug the camera in and turn it on. I'd remap the drives but the external drive has all the MP3s, and changing the source folder causes iTunes and Musicmatch JukeBox to rebuild their databases from scratch, about 30 minutes for each program.

I've had trouble with Access 2003 also. Tried to use a wizard to set up a workout database (included with Access) and had a similar difficulty. Wouldn't prompt for CD, couldn't install updates via the Web.
