Re: Searching for Basic Files (XP Professional/5.1.2600 SP 1 Build 2600)

Windows XP by default only searches for text within files of certain types, .bas is not among those types. See Windows XP Search Bug for a descripton and for possible fixes.

Searching for Basic Files (XP Professional/5.1.260

Edited by <!profile=WyllyWylly>WyllyWylly<!/profile> to replace blue formatting with bold, since some skins do not show forced colors well.

    When searching for files by:
<UL><LI>(Start | Search | For Files or Folders)
    <LI>selecting All files and folders
    <LI>Setting the file name *.bas
<LI>Identifying specific text known to be within the file[/list]There are no files found. Yet if I change one of the bas file extensions to txt, and delete the .bas search parameter the one .txt file is found in the search while the remaining .bas files are not.
This phenomenon is reproducible on two different XP installations, while a Windows 2000 installation successfully finds text within the .bas files.

Are there other settings that I have overlooked, which will allow the search engine to look inside Basic code?
Any insight would be deeply appreciated.
    Regards
    Don

Re: Searching for Basic Files (XP Professional/5.1

I found this tool a few years ago when I was working with PHP scripts, which are also not included in the default search mode. Doug Knox's solution makes easy work of registering a specific file type to be included but it's only a one-way street, so if you ever needed to remove a file type it would require fiddling with the registry.
