I can't play a video using Media Player.

I can't play a video in my E: drive with Windows Media Player 10.0. When I go to Play, then VCD or CD audio, the system doesn't see the disc in E: drive. I just downloaded another copy of it.

I can read and write to this drive E:CD-RW, and read the D: drive.

I get the following error message.

Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

I've tried various option to fix the problem, all to no avail.

Happened upon this maybe worth a try first:

DVD codecs are not included with Windows or Media Player... as you may have gleaned from Jezza's post. If you install any third party DVD playback application, Windows Media Player will use the installed codec.

The Codec download works. It's a little awkward getting the disc started but it plays now.

Re: I can't play a video using Media Player.

Have followed this and several other similar threads. It seems that the L-Lite codec pack cures all evils, and I have a copy for my XPSP2 machine with WMP9. My problem is that I don't really want to install the whole bag of 20-30 codecs from this pack when I probably only need one or two. But which ones? I think all I really need for commercial DVD's is mpeg2, and possible Dolby AC3 for the audio???? From the k-lite installation screen, it's not really clear which to select, and emails to k-lite get no response. What do you suggest?

I'd just install the whole pack, even if you need only a few of them. Disk space is cheap nowadays...
