Lost code, Lost buttons (Word 2002)

Came to work this morning, opened Word and noticed that all macros/code has disappeared. Had a menu on the toolbar with buttons to run code .......disappeared.

Have shut down and restarted. No code, no buttons. Any ideas as what possibly could have happened.? Is there a chance that they may still be available, hidden away some place?

    Thanks.

If the code was stored in Normal.dot, perhaps your Normal.dot was inadvertently deleted. Or it may have become corrupt. See if you can find Normal.dot - its default location is
    Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftTemplates
If the code was stored in add-ins (global templates), they may have become uninstalled. Check out Tools | Templates and Add-Ins...

Searching under the location mentioned does not show Templates. Did search for normal.dot and and found one in default user....templates; one under <name>....officerecent and five under doc and settings<username>recent. None show any coding.

    None of code was add-ins.

Usually files in Recent are just shortcuts to the actual file. If you right-click your shortcut(s) and check where the targets are supposed to be, does it lead to any actual file?

Has anything changed with the way you log in to Windows, e.g., changed username or domain (if you are logging in to a Windows domain)?

The shortcut points to the normal dot in the correct location on our server. Nothing has changed in terms of logging on to the domain.

I got everything back by renaming normal and then taking an old.dot and renaming it back to normal. Still don't know why i lost them, but by having and oldnormal.dot, I was able to get them back.

    Thanks.
