    Make Pub2002 SaveAs Button

I put the message below in the Publisher lounge and got a reply agreeing that VBA is the solution. A button that would bring up SaveAs with Pub2000 format selected. Would anyone be willing to provide me the necessary code?

Bought a copy of Publisher 2002 for the church since it seemed to have some new helpful features (like print preview and work on more than one document at a time). Turns out they changed the file format again, so 2000 won't open a 2002 .pub. 2002 will save in 2000 format (or 98 format) but there doesn't appear to be a way to set the default save to either of those. Does anyone have a solution (VBA perhaps) that would make the default save format selectable?

I'm a bit confused here. If you open a Pub 2000 document in Pub 2002, Publisher knows that and will continue to save in the 2000 format. It's working that way for me, anyway.

If you create a new document in Pub 2002 and want the 2000 format, just change the file type to "Publisher 2000 files" in the SaveAs dialog.

    Well, yeah, but ...

I'm not sure about the automatic resaving of an original 2000 file in the 2000 format but will take your word for it.

The problem is that office workers don't always remember to change the Save As type. Typically, they just push the save button. Late versions of Word (and I think, Excel) offered an option to choose the default Save As type, which was a nice thing in a mixed office.

Wouldn't be so bad if the file suffix was different, but they all look like .pubs (or .docs, etc.). So you blithely share files around and discover that the one you need to edit RIGHT NOW won't open.

So, I would like to have a button that looks like the save button and that does a Save As 2000.

Either that or I want a 2002 converter for Pub 2000.

    So which would you prefer:

    1) Code that traps the Publisher FileSaveAs dialog to accomplish your request or...

    2) An indepent toolbar button that displays a FileSaveAs dialog configured to your requirements?

    Ah. Well ...

I think a SaveAs2000 button would be a fine solution.

I'm almost convinced that your request will go unmet. There is not normal.dot equivalent to hold user/app or default configuration settings.

If they are stored in the registry, I haven't found the keys yet.

Sounds like typical Microsoft design to me. I appreciate your being willing to attempt it. Suite, indeed!
