Full path in top blue bar (W2K/SR!)?

How do you tell Word to include the the entire LAN path along with the file name in the blue bar at the top of Word (2000/SR1)?
    TIA,
    Georgette

the following code will give you the full name at the top of the window

    Sub WindowName()
    ActiveDocument.Windows(1).Caption = ActiveDocument.FullName
    End Sub

It will need to be bundled with the save & document open events for it to successfully alter the document title.

There are arguments for and against this and I think that the other loungers are better able to explain the possible pitfalls of this appoach.

    Hi Georgette,

The best way I found to display the full path is to add the Address bar from the Web toolbar in the empty space to the right of the menu bar.

    For this:

    - Display the Web toolbar
    - Press <Ctrl Alt> and drag the Address bar to a location of your choice
    - You can resize it to fill the empty space by right-clicking any toolbar and selecting Customize. Click the Address bar to select it, place your mouse pointer at the end and watch for the sizing pointer.

Note that pressing <Alt> allows you to move a command without the Customize dialog box open, <Ctrl> copies the command.

There is a way to handle this programmatically as Kieran indicated, however there are the pitfalls as Kieran pointed out too.

I used the macros for a short time until the title bar did not update correctly. I thought I had a specific file open according to the title bar, but actually had another file opened. <img src=/S/bummer.gif border=0 alt=bummer width=15 height=15> (I'm not sure why that happened

I used your simple solution to add the Address bar from the Web toolbar. It worked well.

    Thanks,
    Georgette

    Hi Georgette,

I agree. This is one case where simplicity is by far the winner!
