Re: Chart Legend Better Formatting / More readable (Excel Office 2003)

Just create a legend concatenating all those features.

How are you creating the legend now?

It is usually taken from a cell. Do you have a cell that is listed like that and how is that created.

(it may be simplest to just attach an example, then we could provide something based on your setup...)

Re: Chart Legend Better Formatting / More readable (Excel Office 2003)

You would have to but the text into an intermediate column For example in Y1
    =F1&": "

    In Y2:
    =TEXT(F2,"0.0")&IF(ISBLANK(F3),"",", ")

    Copy Y2, from Y3: Y5

Then set the chart label to
    Data!$Y$1:$Y$5

Copy for the other columns and change their labels as well.

    Sorry about that
Actually this is the file from an earlier thread that Hans was kind enough to do a lot of special code to make it phenomenally useful for my medical purposes to keep patient charts easier to follow and structure patterns in long sequential laboratory results (THREAD:re: 532878 from jrklein )

I think you should take all those values out of the legend. They are already displayed in the chart itself. You could also add a data table to the chart instead of using a legend. See the attached version - Chart1 has a simplified legend, Chart2 a data table.

    Hans:
THis is a much better approach than what I was trying to do, much clearer. You are a genius as always. Cant tell you how much this has helped me with patients and consultants graphics and reports go along way to distilling a lot of raw numbers for patterns.
Steve thank you for trying to make I wanted work.
    Appreciate every ones time

Re: Chart Legend Better Formatting / More readable (Excel Office 2003)

Change your chart labels to a single cell not the entire range and it will only use the "header". The datatable and chart are "linked" in size. If you labels are so large, the chart must be moved over...

Re: Chart Legend Better Formatting / More readable (Excel Office 2003)

    right click on the chart
    Source data
    Series(tab)
    Select each series
change the name to only be 1 cell not the entire range.
    <ok>

By having the "name" be the entire range, you are telling excel to combine the entire range into the name, instead of just using a label...

Re: Chart Legend Better Formatting / More readable (Excel Office 2003)

    Hans
I tried creating a data table on my fully filled out spread sheet.
    1. I cant seem to resize the chart so it goes more to the left
    2. Also it adds a lot of the data right next to the markers on the data table unlike yours. And I do not see an option to get rid of this.
I am attaching a print screen. Not certain on how to resize the print screen so it fits to 640 x 480
