    Redemption Helper? (MSO 2003)

I'm showing two instances of "Redemption Helper Outlook Extension" in my 'Tools/Option/Other/Advanced Options/Add-In Manager. What is this?

One is from iHateSpam, and the other, I think, from NoSpyMail.

Do I need both? Is having two any kind of issue?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Would the tool "Purgatory Helper" manage your two instances of Redemption Helper?

There are two ways to get the Redemption files: one is download the developer editor for yourself, and the other is to receive them as a component of a third party product. Because the third party products may not recognize one another's components, you probably should do nothing about this and just give up the little bit of extra memory required for the duplicate library.

    Jefferson / NoBody:

I wasn't really so concerned with the existence of the dual copies, as I was wondering -- same name, different program or extension....

What does this (do these) do?

    Chuck

    Re: Redemption Helper? (MSO 2003)

Outlook Redemption is a programming library that lets developers write code for Outlook without continually bumping into the security measures introduced by Microsoft to prevent abuse. Redemption uses Extended MAPI, which is safe because it can't be scripted. So it is deservedly popular with programmers developing add-ins for Outlook.

    Hans:

That all being the case, would just having the most current version on hand suffice (being able to discern that is something else) or it like the vbrun dll's where there are 100 - xxx? BTW, these are not interchangeable, are they?

    Chuck

As Jefferson wrote higher up in this thread, I would leave it as it is. If you start fiddling with it, chances are that one or another of the add-ins won't function correctly any more.

    Hans:

I'm not thinking of messing with it. But since the various Outlook add-ins and add-ons don't always cooperate with each other, I am just trying to understand.... I'm not finding any redem*.* on my drive at all...

I think it will be "RD*.dll". If you Googled for it you'd find it here: http://www.dimastr.com/redemption/. Chuck, you gotta go ta Google more!

    Re: Redemption Helper? (MSO 2003)

    John:

I do think it fairly interesting -- and annoying -- that there are TWO copies of "Redemption Helper Outlook Extension" showing in my Outlook add-ins, but nothing (apparent) on my machine.

That's what started this thing for my -- two copies of the same thing ata the same time?

Looking via Google, and will continue to do so, I've found no substantive info as yet. One install of version 4.0.0.452, called redemption.dll, but nothing more...

And this wouldn't matter past curiosity if Outlook wasn't (normally) so finicky about conflicting versions etc.

Oh well, I'll report back if I find out anything...
