    Convert to NTFS

I have a new laptop that I recently purchased, and for better security on the profiles I am setting up in Win XP (home) I want to convert the drive into NTFS format. It is currently FAT 32. I am following the advice in help and it says to type "convert [drive:] /fs:ntfs [/v]" into the dos prompt. I do this and when I press enter it asks for a volume name....then I get stuck...what must I do here??
    Tx

The volume name, sometimes called label, is what you see at the beginning of a command prompt DIR command, or in Windows Explorer as the name of the drive in the left pane. There are a few commands that require you to enter it for safety (assurance) sake.

    Re: Convert to NTFS

OK: So I must just check the volume name and then type it in?

Also, do I need to concern myself with any other details when doing the convertion? or is it all automatic and the PC will refresh itself? Does this split the Harddrive? etc...

Sorry for all the Q's. I am new to this and I don't wanna stuff up my Laptop. (WinHelp is not very details either on this subject!)
    Regards,
    Rudi

As usual, what I forgot to say with my pointer to that thread was to be sure you note John Gray's cautionary BACKUP advice! I wouldn't try such an undertaking without an escape route.

    Re: Convert to NTFS

Agreed...I could implement my linkup in Networking to make a backup onto my Home PC.
    Cheers
