Count cell contents if ... (97+)

I want to count the total number of people who have accepted invitations to a party, based on the column in which i have entered Y for accepted. File attached.
I know i can use countif to count the Y's in column A, but if column A has a Y for yes, then i want to add up the name for that row from column B AND (if there is one) from C. Notice that not all the Names in column B have a partner in column C. Many thanks.
Many thanks for any help, much appreciated.
    Have a great day!

    Try this:

    =SUMPRODUCT(NOT(ISBLANK(B13:C29))*(A13:A29="Y"))

Hans: I don't think you scrolled up to see that the list started in row 2 not row 13. I think the formula you wanted is:

    =SUMPRODUCT(NOT(ISBLANK(B2:C29))*(A2:A29="Y"))

You're correct, I didn't think of scrolling up. Thanks for the correction!
