FP2000: The folder 'http://Web site' isn't accessi (2000)

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

Okay..I recently did some updating on my computer. I now can not open a website to edit it in FP. I receive a "The folder "http://Web site" isn't accessible." error message when you try to open a FrontPage Web". I tried to follow the directions on the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264749/en-us but I am having problems with 2 things: the first method - I don't have a folder called lnkfile under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder. the second method is available only to Windows 2000 and below. I tried downloading it but I was not able to.

The website is not hosting on the server in which I am accessing the internet (it is web hosted elsewhere). It is password protected. When I try to edit the website in the IE under File, Edit using Microsoft FrontPage, it opens in FP but it does not ask me for my username and password and if I make changes, I can not publish it.

I made sure that the FP extensions were available on the website.

I know that I am over quota on my web hosting. I am trying to delete some stuff that I don't need any longer. But I can't do that without accessing my website in FP. Would being over quota with the web hosting cause FP not to open the web???

I was able to open this website before I did some RegEdit changes.

    Please Help!

    If there really is no
lnkfile
key under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, you have a problem: your system won't know how to handle shortcuts.

If you have Windows XP, you can use TweakUI XP from Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP.

I downloaded the program. Now what do I do? I looked for the program under the Control Panel and Program Files. Where is it?

Did you install the program after downloading it? If so, it should be listed in the Start menu: Start | All Programs | Powertoys for Windows XP | Tweak UI.

When you have opened Tweak UI, follow the steps from the MSKB article.

Okay. I found the program, did exactly what the KB article stated and I am still unable to edit my website. I have even gone as far as re-installing FrontPage. I have created an inkfile exactly like one that is on another machine at my work. I have restarted my computer after every time that I have done something. I even go into IE, Edit with FrontPage and I do not get asked my username and password -can not publish or save changes. Should I just blow my profile away and re-do everything?
    Any other suggestions???

    It's not an inkfile, it's a LNKFILE.
If you used inkfile in the first method from the MSKB article, try again with LNKFILE.

I cannot offer specific suggestions for FrontPage, I only reacted to the problems you mentioned with the MSKB article.

I went to the LNK file like the KB articles suggested, create the string. Restarted my machine and I am still getting the error message.

Should I blow away my profile and create a new one?

I know nothing about FrontPage, I'll leave that question for the experts to answer.
