    USB HUB Question

A fellow has an older USB hub that he bought for an older computer that had a 1.1 USB port. Now he has a new computer with a 2.0 USB port.

His question is whether the older USB hub will work at the 2.0 speed or the 1.1 speed when he plugs it into the 2.0 USB port in his new computer.

    Thanks.

    Re: USB HUB Question

The question I would ask is, "Was it a USB 2.0 hub or a USB 1.1 hub?".

The general principle for USB speeds is that of the Lowest Common Denominator... If everything is USB 2.0, then that's how fast it will go; if anything is USB1.1, that's how fast it will go!

    Re: USB HUB Question

Anything plugged into the 1.1 hub should only work at 1.1 speeds, but it should work even with 2.0 devices. Depending on the device, 1.1 speed might be good enough.

Windows will nag you about it though.
