# Thread: SUM can find a total of up to 30 arguments (Excel 2002)

1. ## SUM can find a total of up to 30 arguments (Excel 2002)

SUM can find a total of up to 30 arguments, is there a way for it to sum more than 30? The reason I am asking is that we have one worksheet for each day of the month and then a month workksheet. So if the field in each month worksheet for apples says \$1.00 in it then on the month sheet it will show the total for all the days....\$30.00 for months with 30 days and \$31.00 for months with \$31.00. Is there a way to count the 31st day in the month?

This is the current formula: it gives me an error if I try to add day 31....
=SUM('Day 1'!B29,'Day 2'!B29,'Day 3'!B29,'Day 4'!B29,'Day 5'!B29,'day 6'!B29,'day 7'!B29,'day 8'!B29,'day 9'!B29,'day 10'!B29,'day 11'!B29,'day 12'!B40,'day 13'!B29,'day 14'!B29,'day 15'!B29,'day 16'!B29,'day 17'!B29,'day 18'!B29,'day 19'!B29,'day 20'!B29,'day 21'!B29,'day 22'!B29,'day 23'!B29,'day 24'!B29,'day 25'!B29,'day 26'!B29,'day 27'!B29,'day 28'!B29,'day 29'!B29,'day 30'!B29)

Thanks

If the sheets Day 1 to Day 31 are contiguous, you can use

=SUM('Day 1ay 31'!B29)

3. ## Re: SUM can find a total of up to 30 arguments (Excel 2002)

If the sheets are contiguous, then see Hans' post. If the sheets are not contiguous, then you could use:

=SUM('Day 1'!B29,'Day 2'!B29,'Day 3'!B29,'Day 4'!B29,'Day 5'!B29,'day 6'!B29,'day 7'!B29,'day 8'!B29,'day 9'!B29,'day 10'!B29,'day 11'!B29,'day 12'!B40,'day 13'!B29,'day 14'!B29,'day 15'!B29,'day 16'!B29,'day 17'!B29,'day 18'!B29,'day 19'!B29,'day 20'!B29,'day 21'!B29,'day 22'!B29,'day 23'!B29,'day 24'!B29,'day 25'!B29,'day 26'!B29,'day 27'!B29,'day 28'!B29,'day 29'!B29,'day 30'!B29) +SUM('day 31'!B29)

4. ## Re: SUM can find a total of up to 30 arguments (Excel 2002)

Or simply

='Day 1'!B29+'Day 2'!B29+'Day 3'!B29+ ... +'Day 31'!B29

5. ## Re: SUM can find a total of up to 30 arguments (Excel 2002)

Not quite the same if any of the cells might contain a text value.

6. ## Re: SUM can find a total of up to 30 arguments (Excel 2002)

Yep, that's correct.

7. ## Re: SUM can find a total of up to 30 arguments (E

Insert two new worksheets and name them First and Last. Insert ALL relevant sheets between the two and use,

=SUM(First!:Last!B29)
