    formula help please (Excel 2003)

    Good morning

I am trying to enter the following formula on a worksheet but it says I am creating a circular reference but I cannot seem to fathom why that is, a prod in the right direction would be much appreciated

    =IF(D14>VolumeCalculator!E12,D14,IF(D14<VolumeCalc ulator!E12,VolumeCalculator!E12,''))

    TIA

A circular reference occurs when your formula contains the same cell reference where the actual formula has been entered. In your case the if function you are creating is probably entered into cell D14. As D14 contains a formula and the formula refers to D14, you now have a circular reference.

If possible, build the formula into E14 that refers to D14.
