    Copied worksheets linked? (Excel 2003)

When you copy and worksheet from one workbook to another, for formatting purposes. are the two linked? That seems to be what I just ran into - I got one spreadsheet setup like I liked it, and since the next round had to do with different data, but I wanted the same formatting, i decided copy the original sheet to the new workbook. Closed the original workbook, reopened for some reason, saw that they were linked....couldn't figure out why as no formulas call data or values back and forth.....broke the link and subsequently seem to have lost the copied worksheet in the original workbook. <img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15>

If any cells in the original referenced cells in another sheet when the sheet is copied, links will be created.

If you have any names in the workbook, when a sheet is copied, the names are copied and the names are linked to the source which could be in the other workbook.

So if you wanted to make a copy of the "layout" or formatting of a sheet, but you didn't want to link them, how could you do that? Make a copy of the sheet in the original workbook first, get rid of formulas and references, then move it to another book? Would that work (gunshy after loosing that sheet earlier).

A couple of possibilities for you, depending on what you really want to do:

1- If you really only want the formatting, then copy the sheet and then do a Paste Special and just paste the formats.

2- Copy the entire workbook file and then delete what you don't want from the file copy.
