    Change AutoNumbering to Right-Aligned (Word 2000 >)

Here is a minor issue I would like to know if it can be fixed permanently!

If I start a new document, and I start a numbered list...I type:
    1. (space) Test
    2. (space) Test 2

and Word automatically creates an autolist with numbers.

The problem is that the numbers are always left aligned...so when I get to 10 and higher, the numbers cause the text to indent further and it does not line up.
I can solve it by selecting the list and going to bullets and numbering and under the customise button I choose Number Position and select Right.

Even if I change the Normal.dot and make the numbering options right aligned, it still left aligns when I start a new auto numbering list by typing 1. (space)....etc.

Is there anything I can do to correct this without having to manually have to select the list and Format | Bullets and Numberin and choose the appropriate numbering style I corrected in Normal.dot.

    Tx
    Regards,
    Rudi

Except for one-off memos and the like, you should ALWAYS use styles for numbered or bulleted lists. Relying on auto-formatted lists or on the buttons on the toolbar will bite you in the end in long, structured documents.

    >>> ALWAYS use styles for numbered or bulleted lists

Am I using styles if I choose Format | Bullets and Numbering and Select from the dialog? Or are you saying that I must create a numbering style of my own using Format | Style?

PS: Is the bite sore? Like in a Rottweiller bite or a Chiwawa bite? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Word has several bulleted and numbered styles built in: List Bullet, List Bullet 2, etc. and List Number, List Number2, etc. The Style dropdown in the Formatting toolbar won't display them if they haven't been used yet, but it will if you hold down Shift when clicking on the dropdown.

A bite in the end is painful anyhow!
